Welcome to BRAMS´ Model site!

This page describes how to install, run and verify a BRAMS installation on PC architecture (IA32) Linux systems. Model will only run sequentially. For parallel runs, download source from Expert Users. Even for parallel runs, we strongly suggest to download and install this sequential version, since its directory structure and data files are required for parallel runs.

System Requirements:

1. Grads (Grid Analysis and Display System) should be installed to visualize BRAMS output. Download and install grads. Make sure that the <grads>/bin subdir is in your PATH (if you run the script install-grads.sh, it do this automatically). The presence of grads is not mandatory for BRAMS execution but its absence prevents verification.

How to install:

1. Download brams4.2-serial.tar.gz (about 176MB). File contains BRAMS executable (IA32 systems), directory structure and all data required to execute and verify a sequential sample run.

2. Create a home directory for BRAMS.
Ex:
mkdir /home/user/run-brams42

3. Copy downloaded file into home directory
Ex: cp brams4.2-serial.tar.gz /home/user/run-brams42

4. Decompress file

  • tar -xzvf brams4.2-serial.tar.gz

  •   or
  • gunzip brams4.2-serial.tar.gz
  • tar -xvf brams4.2-serial.tar

  • How to execute sample run:

    1. Execute runBRAMS.sh.

    How to certify the installation:

    1. Sample run execution ends with the message:
  • ***BRAMS execution ends successfully***

  • 2. Successful sample run generates gif files topo.gif and temp.gif at directory RAMSPOST60 just like this:

    How to proceed:

    1. If successfully installed, then download and study:

    2. For parallel executions, download source from Expert Users.

    3. If the installation procedure does not succeed, contact BRAMS support team.
